As they say at last call, “you don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here!” The reception is over, you’ve found your people (or you’d like to find more), and now you need somewhere to go. We’ve got you! 

Games Night

Looking for an escape from the digital world? Time to get tactile! Join host Dan Brown and your fellow Shift UX attendees for some friendly tabletop gaming. Whether you prefer deep strategy or casual fun, we have a wide selection of games for you to choose from including Wingspan, Azul, Flip 7, Splendor, Spaceteam, and many more!. Come meet colleagues, enjoy a refreshment, and play a great game or two. No experience necessary!

Brooklyn Bridge Walk (Weather permitting)

Where: Meet up in the lobby near the registration desk and we’ll head out from there

When: 7:30pm

Transportation: Your feet! (and maybe a cab back)

A walk across the Brooklyn Bridge at night gets you a clear view of the Manhattan skyline and the harbor lights — free, takes about 30 minutes (one way), and it's lit up beautifully after dark. For extra credit, add the Manhattan Bridge to make it a slightly longer loop, and grab some dim sum in Chinatown on the Manhattan side. 

 

Karaoke Night at Montero’s Bar & Grill

Where: 73 Atlantic Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11201

When: Karaoke starts around 9pm (or “whenever the host shows up”)

Transportation: A 20 minute walk through the heart of downtown Brooklyn, or a 10 minute cab ride.

This is a popular dive bar that has karaoke every Thursday. 

 

Bingo Night at the Randolph

Where: The Randolph, 82 Prospect Street, Brooklyn

When: 7:00–9:00pm

Transportation: An easy 9 minute walk.

Grab a pint and card! And stop by the ATM because cash is required to play

Comedy: “AI & Human Roast Battle”

Where: Pine Box Rock Shop, 12 Grattan Street, Brooklyn

When: 8:30–10:30pm

Transportation: 30-35 minutes on the B57 bus, or a 20-25 minute cab ride. Observe the aging hipsters in Brooklyn’s famous Williamsburg neighborhood.  

“A Human Rapper takes on a Machine-Learning A.I. in a comedy roast.”

Food and Drink

There are countless spots to hang out over drinks or sweets in NYC, but here are a few to get you started.

After the reception, we’ll have meetup spots in the Lobby for the following locations. If you’d like to head out with other UX-ers, find the sign of the spot you’d like to visit.

Roxy Bar

Where: in the Roxy Hotel; Tribeca;  2 6th Avenue, New York, NY 10013:  

When: all evening

Transportation: 14 minutes on the A/C train; take it toward Manhattan 4 stops to Canal Street, then walk 3 minutes.

Cool cats will enjoy “jazz & cocktails” in the lobby of the Roxy Hotel. Food is also available. 

 

Myrtle Avenue Negroni Week 

Where: Myrtle Avenue (multiple locations), Brooklyn

When: All evening

Transportation: Take the B54 bus–it runs mostly along Myrtle Avenue. After 10-15 minutes, you should have passed lovely Fort Greene Park (also worth a stop for the history and the view). There bars should abound. Or walk (about 25 minutes).

Multiple bars on Myrtle Avenue are highlighting their Negroni concoctions. 

 

Mia's Brooklyn Bakery

Where: 139 Smith Street, Brooklyn

When: Open until midnight

Transportation: An easy 15 minute walk to Brooklyn’s Cobble Hill neighborhood; Smith Street is studded with restaurants.

If you're in the mood for something sweet, check out this small but exceptional bakery. 

 

Lazy Sundaes

Where: 170 Front Street, Brooklyn

When: Open until 9pm

Transportation: A quick 15 minute walk to DUMBO;

A small café known for bubble teas and Korean desserts. Grab some shaved ice and walk fast to the waterfront (Brooklyn Bridge Park) before it melts!
